Our people

We’ve built a gender diverse leadership team — 3 of our 8 board members identify as female. We’re also trying to build in greater diversity as we grow beyond our small team. Our summer internship has let us welcome people from different religious and ethnic backgrounds, and with different disabilities, into our team.

What makes us proudest

Together we’ve turned over 3 million slices of surplus bread into beer and donated over £100k to charity. We’re all key to delivering this impact — from those making our beer to those selling to some of our biggest customers (including Co-op, Waitrose and Ocado).

Get to know us better

What are your general working hours?

We work Monday to Friday. Our core hours are 10am to 4pm, but as long as you work 8 hours a day you can start early or finish late to suit what works for you.

What’s your working policy?

We’re in the office together 2 days a week to help us build good relationships and for practical meetings, such as beer quality reviews. Other days, you can use the office (which is conveniently located behind our taproom) or work from home. If you work from home, we’ll give you equipment to make sure you’ve got a healthy working space.

How do you help people develop their careers?

We have an induction process for new joiners that includes everything from a coffee with the leadership team to a day at the brewery learning how we brew our beers. On top of on-the-job training, we’ll pay for necessary training courses and give you 3 days per year paid leave for your personal development.

What type of culture do you encourage?

We’re a small business so know each other pretty well. We respect and celebrate our differences and encourage everyone to have their say — particularly if it goes against the group think! And we don’t work in separate groups, we regularly meet as a full team to align on key decisions. Bring your whole self to work!

What social events do you run?

We enjoy Pie Tuesdays (a Pieminster pie lunch) and Coffee Thursdays (a relaxed weekly team meeting). We have regular events at our taproom, and adhoc drinks after work (we have a 0.5% option for non-drinkers). Every year we take time out to get on the same page about our business strategy and spend time in nature.

How do you give back to your community?

We donate all profits to environmental charities (and dedicate a minimum of 1% of our revenue to investing in positive change for the environment). We also offer all our team members 2 days of paid leave for volunteering or activism.

What accessibility support do you give?

We ask all new starters whether they have any needs and then we make sure to accommodate them. We then train the current team. In the past, we’ve accommodated for a range of needs from autism to hearing difficulties.
