What does your role involve?

My role is all about forging and nurturing relationships with celebrities and influencers. I coordinate their involvement in various WWF projects, from fundraising campaigns to awareness-building campaigns.

It involves a lot of communication, strategies, and creative brainstorming with teams internally and externally with the celebrity/influencer and their representatives to ensure that the partnership aligns with WWF’s mission, reaches our target audiences and is authentic to both WWF and the celebrity/influencer.

One memorable moment was when I brought Ellie Goulding on as an official ambassador. In 2022 we worked alongside Marie Claire where Ellie was a special guest editor and she talked about her work, mental health, taking action on climate change and more. Ellie’s voice helps us drive forward the work we do at WWF.

How did you get into your current role?

My career journey began with an internship at Premier Model Management at 17, leading me into the world of fashion, music, and entertainment. I studied Creative Direction at London College of Fashion and worked a number of different jobs and internships in fashion and music predominately.

Coming from a working class background there was a year when I was working/studying seven days a week to be able to afford to live and enjoy my life in London.

After University I focused my skills in communication and relationship-building while collaborating with high-profile personalities and prestigious brands including Kenzo, Roger Vivier, British Fashion Council, The V&A, Selfridges, Mulberry and more. Eventually, my passion for environmental and humanitarian issues led me to WWF, where I now lead the celebrity relations team, merging my love for the arts with conservation work.

What made you move into sustainability?

My shift into the world of sustainability was driven by a passion for nature (I grew up in the Warwickshire countryside so have always felt a deep connection to nature) and a desire to make an impact in protecting our planet through my own expertise and skills. I realised the potential to leverage my background in the arts and entertainment industry to raise awareness and drive action on nature & climate issues, which is aligning my career with my own core values.

How does your role help make a difference?

My role brings impactful collaborations between WWF and celebrities/influencers, which amplify our message and reach wider and our targeted audiences. By harnessing the celebrities/influencers influence, we raise awareness, inspire action, and drive support for crucial conservation efforts. Celebrities and influencers are powerful storytellers and engage people emotionally by motivating them to join us in protecting our planet.

Other than formal qualifications, what do you need for this job?

This kind of position requires strong communication skills, relationship-building abilities, and a genuine passion for both conservation and engaging with people. Being adaptable, creative, and having the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment are essential.

What do you wish you knew when you first started out?

I wish I understood the importance of self-care and maintaining a healthy work-life balance. This role can be demanding, and prioritising personal well-being is crucial for long-term success, fulfilment & happiness. I remember reading in a NY Times Article by Bonnie Tsui on rest and creativity and she wrote: “To do the work, we need to rest, to read, to reconnect. It is the invisible labour that makes creative life possible.” I like to remind myself of this regularly. Rest is important.

What's the most rewarding part of your role?

The most rewarding aspect is seeing the impact of successful collaborations firsthand, whether it's seeing increased awareness, funds raised, or seeing positive changes in behaviour. Knowing that my efforts are contributing to a better future for our planet is so rewarding.

What's the most challenging part of your role?

One of the biggest challenges is navigating ever changing schedules of celebrity & influencers alongside our own schedules, preferences, and commitments with our objectives. This role requires flexibility and problem-solving skills. Additionally, ensuring that partnerships are authentic and mutually beneficial can be complex but rewarding.
