I don’t have any formal qualifications for my role whatsoever! I have gotten to where I am through practical work experience. My first opportunity came about through a Kickstarter placement during Covid, in which I had the chance to work as a show runner on a large-scale event at the AO Arena in Manchester. It was this event that made me realise how much I enjoyed the excitement of being behind the scenes and working on a show.
After that, I went on to do more freelance jobs like crewing, artist liaison and stage management and from this built-up a range of different skills which helped prepare me for the role I am doing now.
For those looking to take that first step but unsure where to start, Factory International is committed to diversifying the workforce in the creative and cultural industries. They provide skills and training through their Factory Academy programmes for people aged 19+ in Manchester who are at the start of their careers as technicians, producers, and arts professionals.
