Duque de Caxias in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil was once part of a huge rubbish dump. 🌳 But ten years later, it is a blossoming mangrove forest home to different species of crabs, snails, fish and birds. Thanks to the city’s rubbish collection agency, Comlurb, garbage has been removed, a rainwater drainage system has been built and mangroves have been replanted.

Following two years of negotiations, last week the EU gave final approval to create the world’s first-ever carbon border tax. But what does that actually mean? 💸 Well, it means that EU countries will be able to charge tax on imports depending on the amount of greenhouse gases emitted in their production. The plan is to phase the tax in from 2026 and impose it on seven high-emission industries, including steel, fertiliser and electricity.
